Leisure Activities in Perthshire - Balquhidder Glen

Killin is at the northern gateway to Scotland's first national park. The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park covers an area of 720 square miles and offers wonderful scenery and wildlife.

For fishing, Loch Tay is just a short distance away, and the salmon catch has been increasing in recent years. There are also trout in abundance in the loch, and in the River Lochay and River Dochart, which flow into the loch just north of the village.

Fishing equipment and boats can be hired and a ghillie booked if required.
Please see Loch Tay Fishing Trips website.

Leisure Activities in Perthshire - Falls of Dochart

Nearby, the famous 'Falls of Dochart' are one of the most scenic and most photographed waterfalls in Scotland.

Adjacent to the Falls of Dochart is the Breadalbane Folklore Centre, housed in the old waterside mill. Here you can learn about St Fillan and see his sacred healing stones. Meet local historian Scotty Wilson and hear stories of the clans who once ruled Scotland - please see Crannog Tales for more details.

Canoes and Canadian canoes can be hired locally to take you straight down river to Loch Tay. Alternatively small boats with outboard motors can be hired for a half day or a whole day.

At Kenmore, you can take a cruise on the loch using the 'water bus', or try white water rafting or canyoning in the gorge.

On nearby Loch Earn there is a water sports centre offering activities including water skiing and dinghy sailing.

Killin is a popular centre for mountain climbing and hill walking, with over 20 'Munros' to tackle.

Dall Lodge is located at the foot of Ben Lawers, which is 3983 feet [or 1214 metres] high, the highest mountain in Perthshire.

Ben Lawers is a National Nature Reserve and has its own visitor centre. The Nature Trail is easily accessible from the car park, and arctic alpine plants grow here in profusion - with habitat restoration and plant regeneration is in progress.

Perthshire Activities - Perthshire Golf Course

For walkers there are many lovely walks through woods and around the lochside - some easy, others more difficult hill walks.

Perthshire offers great variety for a golfing holiday - there are over 40 golf courses in Perthshire, and Killin has its own challenging 9 hole golf course set in beautiful scenery beside the River Lochay.
Please see Killin Golf Club website.

Adjacent to Dall Lodge is Breadalbane Park, the venue for the annual Highland Games, with a public tennis court, bowling green, and putting green.

Perthshire Activities - Climb the Mountains Behind Dall Lodge Country House

Cycling is becoming ever more popular and mountain bikes can be hired from the local bike shop.

The Sustrans Cycle Route Number 7 passes directly through Killin, and there are quiet glens and forest tracks to explore.

Horse riding and pony trekking lessons can be taken nearby.

There are castles and gardens to visit, or find out what life was like in the Iron Age by visiting the Scottish Crannog Centre at Kenmore.
